Do Fishing Scents/Attractants Work?

Based on personal experience, I would say, YES. Fishing scents are not a magic potion that will make you into the greatest fisherman to live. But it can be another tool in the tackle box that will increase the chance of catching more fish.

First of all, the main reason to use these products is to mask any other scent or taste that will deter a fish from biting. Many lures are made of plastic materials that can deter a fish from taking your lure. Sometimes anglers will have some foreign substance on their hands that have contact with our fishing lures and gear. Some examples are our natural human scent, cologne, and sunscreen lotion. These foreign substances will deter a bite from fish.

Fish do have a strong sense of taste. When they strike a lure, they can quicky sense if its food or not. If it does not hook itself or your slow to set the hook, the fish will spit it out before you can react. Some of the biggest game fish can have a subtle strike. When you use these products on your lure and you get that strike, the fish will hold on your lure for that extra second, this gives you that advantage to really set the hook and bring in that possible trophy fish.
